11 plus preparation Mock Examinations

Sitting the 11 plus can be nerve-racking experience for your child. Participating in mock examinations is an excellent way of helping to put them at ease on the day and of building their confidence. Vitally for parents, they can also be invaluable for gauging a child’s progress and identifying both strengths and areas that require focus going forward on their journey towards the exam itself.

In the months before the 11 plus exam, we hold a number of mock exams for the Newport (and other West Midlands group)  grammar schools regardless of whether children attend our tuition classes or not.

A realistic Exam Experience 

Each 11 Plus mock test follows the same structure and timings of the exams the children will sit in September, providing as authentic an exam experience as possible. All tests take place under exam conditions and last for approximately two and a half hours. Personal feedback will be provided during a telephone appointment in the week following the exam.

All mock exams take place at Harper Adams University. 

 

Mock exam dates and booking options

Pair 1 — November / December
Sunday 29 November 2026: Year 5 Maths & Non-Verbal Reasoning
Sunday 6 December 2026: Year 5 English & Verbal Reasoning

Pair 2 — February
Sunday 7 February 2027: Year 5 Maths & Non-Verbal Reasoning
Sunday 14 February 2027: Year 5 English & Verbal Reasoning

Year 5: £55 for one date, or £100 for both dates within the same pair. You may book one or both. Prices include analysis and a feedback phone call.

Year 4: full paper covering all areas — £55 per session. The same paper is used on 29 November and 6 December, so choose only one of those dates. The same applies to 7 and 14 February: choose only one February date. There is no benefit in booking both dates within a pair.

Year 5: choose one date for £55 or both dates within the same pair for £100 (29 November + 6 December, or 7 + 14 February). Year 4: each session is a full paper, £55.
