Why chose Advantage Tutoring for your child’s 11 plus preparation?
The Best Possible Preparation.
Helping your child prepare for entrance examinations such as the 11 plus can be a challenging, daunting and time-consuming task. The 11 plus examination for example often includes specific subjects and formats that are unfamiliar to both parents and children. We are experienced in teaching effective study and test-taking techniques which can significantly improve a child’s performance and can provide the specialised guidance and materials needed to effectively prepare pupils. This leaves you safe in the knowledge your child has all the necessary tools and strategies available to them on the day.
Reduced Stress.
Trying to be both a parent and a teacher can strain the parent-child relationship. It can be difficult to strike a balance between providing guidance and maintaining a positive, supportive atmosphere at home. Children are much more likely to resist parental instruction more than they would a tutor’s guidance, causing friction and stress within the family. Using an experienced tutor to support you and your children as you prepare for the exam reduces the pressure and anxiety felt by you all. Furthermore, it means you know that you clearly understand the level of challenge and difficulty that the examination will provide and that the advice your child is getting is correct.
Improved confidence.
Confidence is key for the 11 plus. A child must feel that they are well-prepared and parents need to know that their child’s preparations are in safe hands. Comprehensive and effective tutoring from an experienced professional means that there is no danger of underestimating the level of preparation needed and of your child being ill-prepared for the actual exam and potentially missing out on opportunities. The 11 plus is a comprehensive examination which tests a wide range of intelligences and abilities. It is rare for a child to be equally adept in all areas. Without tailored feedback and encouragement, children might become discouraged and doubt their abilities. An experienced voice is key in boosting confidence and improving understanding in more challenging areas.

We offer several options for group tuition, both at the weekend and during the week. In these classes, run in small groups on, we help prepare children for the Newport Girls’ High School and Haberdashers’ Adams entrance exams, which children sit towards the beginning of Year 6.
Classes focus on the key skills required – non-verbal reasoning, verbal reasoning, English comprehension and maths. Our classes are for year 4 and 5 children, who are planning to sit the relevant examination when they are in year 6.
